Join CALA at LACMA to discover the legacy of pioneering Black architect Paul R. Williams and celebrate the Black culture, art, architecture, and history that have shaped Los Angeles. The visit also includes a tour of the David Geffen Galleries from a conservation perspective, with LACMA curator Staci Steinberger, research assistant Sarah Locke, and objects conservator Jessica Chasen.

THE EAMES HOUSE

Visit the landmark 1949 home and creative environment of legendary designers Charles and Ray Eames. The tour includes insights from the Getty Conservation Institute’s Eames House Conservation Project, with Chandler McCoy (Principal Project Specialist, GCI) and Jacob Newstrom (Programs and Operations Coordinator, Charles and Ray Eames Foundation).

We hiked the Old Los Angeles Zoo trail, a 2.5-mile loop in Griffith Park. To reward our efforts, we met afterwards for drinks at Paperback Brewery in Glendale.

Conservation Clinics
Over 160 CALA volunteers offered their expertise and support a public Conservation Clinic series organized by Art Recovery LA, in collaboration with Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture. These clinics took place at the Armory Center for Art in Pasadena, MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary in downtown LA, the Getty Center in Brentwood, and the Altadena Library. We provided support to 430 community members with objects damaged by LA’s January fires.
